Dr Atha began his orthodontic career path at the University of Iowa where he earned his B.S. degree in 1968 and his DDS in 1972. He then had a rotating internship with the United States Air Force in 1973 at Eglin Air Force Base. From 1974-1975 he was the base dental commander in Iraklion, Crete Greece. It was then back to the University of Iowa to obtain his orthodontic certificate and Masters Degree in 1977.
In May of 1977, Dr Atha moved west to Colorado where he started his practice in Colorado Springs and Canon City. Dr Atha has been an active member of the Colorado component and the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists for numerous years. He has been on the Board of Directors of both organizations culminating in his Presidency for Colorado in 1993 and the RMSO in 2003. Dr Atha has also been active with the American Association of Orthodontists in various capacities including participating in the Leadership Conference and an RMSO delegate.
Dr Atha has three children. Dr Jason Atha is a general dentist practicing in Boulder, Colorado. His daughter Jenny, son-in-law Kevin and son Brandon live in Denver Colorado all working for Oppenheimer Funds.
Dr Atha is an avid fly fisherman. For the past fifteen years he has been a fly fishing guide on the weekends for the Blue Quill Angler in Evergreen, Colorado. He has been one of the featured fly tiers at the West Denver Trout Unlimited and led several trips to San Juan, Green River, Big Horn, Henrys Fork, Lee’s Ferry and not to mention international trips to Belize and New Zealand.
In his “other” spare time, Dr Atha is a member of the Colorado Springs Cotillion, an avid Avalanche fan and enjoys riding his Harley!
Dr. Kim Batterson has been practicing orthodontics since 2002. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree and her dental degree. After dental school, she went on to complete a post-doctoral specialty program at the University of Iowa in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. This is where she earned her Master of Science degree and received her Orthodontic Certificate. A board-certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Batterson feels it is important to stay abreast in the latest advances in orthodontics. She has special interests in treating craniofacial anomalies (cleft lip/palate), orthognathic surgery, and the use of temporary anchorage devices (TADS) to assist in treating malocclusions.
Dr. Batterson is an active member of the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association, and numerous local study clubs. She recently finished a four year term on the New and Younger Member Council for the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Batterson and her husband, David, have two children, Abigail and Jack. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and all the opportunities the outdoors has to offer, like running, biking and skiing. Dr. Batterson is also involved in sponsoring local events around the community. This includes, Kokopelli Kids, an annual running series that teaches children of all ages that running is fun and rewarding.
